Janice E. Barton Shields Wednesday, February 15, 1933 - Sunday, September 24, 2017

Bradford, PA- Janice E. Barton Shields, 84, of the Bradford Manor, formerly of Fifth Avenue, Randolph, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the Bradford Manor. She was born February 15, 1933 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Louis and Edna L. Peterson Barton. Janice was a 1951 graduate of Randolph Central School. Following graduation, she worked as a waitress at many local establishments and retired as a child care worker at the Randolph Children’s Home. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Randolph, where she served as a greeter and was a member of the ECW. She is survived by two sons; James L. (Marilyn) Smith of Bradford, Philip “Bart” Shields of Logan, OH, two step daughters; Melanie “Micky” Shields of Randolph and Judith Ash of Massachusetts, a grandson: Zachary J. Shields of Jamestown, and brother-in-law; Ken Sherlock of Randolph. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Earl Shields, whom she married on July 23, 1966 and who preceded her on August 27, 2005, a daughter; Marcia L. Smith in 2000 and a grandson; Aaron J. Smith in 2017 and granddaughter; Shanna R. Smith in 1978, as well as two sisters; Mary D. Barton and Jeannette L. Sherlock. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday (September 30, 2017) in the Randolph Cemetery The Rev. Thomas Broad, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church will officiate. I'm so sorry for your loss and the fact that I couldn't make it to Janice's service as I am sick. Janice was a lovely person. Quiet,  reserved, giving and a faithful friend. She was loyal, honest and had a strong work ethic. Her life was one of service to others with God as her Guide. She gave meaning to her life.
